After having worked for years in the luxury knitwear sector, we realized that the steps in the traditional distribution chain significantly increase prices, making quality accessible to few. This is where our idea was born, to create a high quality Italian product without compromises, at an accessible price.
From Milan to Todi

We leave from Milan to arrive in the heart of Umbria. Umbria has always been the most important Italian district for excellent knitwear, some of the most prestigious Italian knitwear brands are born here. Master knitters pass this art down from father to son for generations, and the passion for this ancient craft can be felt in every corner; in bars, in the square, it is easy to come across conversations about yarns and knitting. Right from here, together with a family of master craftsmen, our collaboration begins, to transmit their tradition and passion directly to you.

With this thought, we work with passion and create our shirts in the best possible way, paying the utmost attention and care to every single detail, so as to create a quality product that lasts over time.
How we craft them
the manufacturing
In the creation of our sweaters, following an ancient tradition, even today, as in the past, we carry out many processes by hand, with a manual skill and a technique that master knitters have handed down for generations, and which make the difference in quality.
It all starts from a hand drawing, which, through a complicated study, is transformed into stitches and technical data to start the weaving
In this phase the yarn is transformed into sheets (front, back and sleeves) already shaped thanks to the lowering and at the same time the finishes are also knitted, i.e. the edges, collars and cuffs.
The assembly of the different parts takes place through linking machines. With this operation which requires great manual precision, the knitters thread each stitch of the two component parts onto the machine needles, which are then sewn together with just 1 thread, thus creating the precious basin stitch.
We use different types of washes, depending on the type of yarn and fineness, so as to give the shirt the desired look. For carded yarns, fulling is added to the wash, thanks to which the sweater is given a soft appearance and unique softness.
The finished garment undergoes a further check to detect weaving and manufacturing defects, by placing the sweater on a lighted mannequin.
Once quality control has been passed, each label is sewn by hand.
The last step is ironing, which consists of careful and delicate steaming, and a touch-up with a traditional iron.

Our goal is not to sell you a sweater, but to make sure that you think of us every time you want to buy one.
Traditional brands must choose whether to focus on pure quality, making it accessible to a few, or reduce quality to contain costs and not raise the final price too much. We do not have to pay commissions to agents or showrooms, we do not have distributors who resell the product at a higher price, this allows us to focus only on quality: a sweater of similar quality made with the same yarns, the same hand steps, the same quality controls, but sold through the traditional distribution chain, would cost more than double.

We only collaborate with renowned spinning mills.
The study of the models, the development and all the processes are done internally in our laboratory in Umbria.
The labels are produced in Italy and hand sewn onto the shirt directly by our craftsmen.
Even the packaging is designed and made in Italy.
We follow the entire production cycle of our products, because we are sure that this is the only way to create a product of excellence, 100% Made in Italy quality.

Our way of doing business allows us to be among the few companies that can boast of knowing the entire history of the product it creates, from the raw material to the final consumer, and we try to exploit this advantage to train the sensitivity of stakeholders and consumers .
All our sweaters are made of natural fibers and we only work with excellent spinning mills which, like us, are committed to responsible behavior and search for raw materials directly in the places of origin in direct contact with local breeders and growers, respecting and in protecting the environment and nature. The suppliers are able to provide us with the traceability of the fibers that make up the yarns, and indicate the precise area of origin.
Making products that last over time and producing them in limited quantities, as well as making them exclusive and precious, allows us to reduce waste and consumption to a minimum.
Even the packaging is designed and created in Italy in an eco-sustainable way and is plastic free, convinced that even small gestures, if done by many, help protect the environment.

workshop & artisans (Bottega e Artigiani)
Bottegiani is not just a name, but it is the union of two words that best represent our world: workshop (bottega) and artisans (artigiani). We are not a brand, but we are artisans who, in their laboratory, every day, create with their own hands, as was done in the past, trying to convey all the passion and tradition of their know-how through care, sometimes almost obsessive for details, all finished by hand with the aim of creating something of value and special that will last over time.
